First Day Routine and Class Lists

    September 1, 2017 News
Over the past two days, our enrollment has been changing  minute by minute.  At this very moment, we are projected to have 350 students on September 5 (K-5); our original projection was 330 students.  Of course, this number will most likely change over the weekend and by Tuesday morning, but it gives you a sense of what is happening.

We are thrilled to have so many families returning and welcome all new families to Lowell!

On Tuesday, we will be looking at classroom lists one more time with teachers, making adjustments, and printing lists for the beginning of school.

Class lists will be posted in the hallway outside of the office by 1:00 PM on Tuesday.

On Wednesday, for parents who will be bringing their student to school and for students who ride a taxi:
    * Staff will greet families and students at the front door and provide your child with a name tag that includes his/her name, teacher and room number, lunch number, and bus number.

    * Students and families are then to go to the cafeteria for Universal Breakfast (free breakfast for all students).  Once finished eating, or if having gone through the line students decided not to eat, students and families may head out to the playground or remain in the cafeteria.

    * With the exception of kindergarten and families with students enrolled in self-contained Special Education classrooms, please do NOT go to the classroom at this point because teachers will on duty and classroom doors will be locked.

    * When the bell rings at 8:50, please line up with your student, either on the playground or in the cafeteria and head to the classroom with him/her.  By the time you get to the classroom, the teacher will be there to greet you and your child.

On Wednesday, for students who ride the bus:
    * Staff will greet students as they get off the bus and give your child a name tag that includes his/her name, teacher and room number, lunch number, and bus number.

    * Students then to go to the cafeteria for Universal Breakfast (free breakfast for all students).  Once finished eating, or if having gone through the line students decided not to eat, students may head out to the playground or remain in the cafeteria.

    * When the bell rings at 8:50, students will line up either on the playground or in the cafeteria and head to the classroom with the adult.  They will then go into their new classrooms, where their teachers will greet them.

    Driving and parking:
Please do NOT park by the front door -- that space is for buses and taxis.  You will need to park in the neighborhood, which can be challenging.  Please do not park up the curb near the field -- this makes it difficult for school buses to get through.

For the first day, and for ONLY this Wednesday of the entire year, school will end at 3:25 PM.  Please be on time if you are planning to pick-up your student.  The gate by the field will open 5 minutes prior to dismissal.  Teachers escort students to "pick-up" points in the courtyard, make eye contact with the adult pick-up, and have the adult sign that he/she has received the student.  This is for safety.

    Transportation
As happens each year, buses will most likely be running late (sometimes very late) for the first week or so.  Please contact Transportation for all your transportation needs (206. 252-0900 or transdept@seattleschools.org ).  Transportation does call families to inform them when buses are late.
