    Hello Families,

We had the 70th day away from school this week. It feels like a bit of a milestone. We’re getting good at a few of the new things we’re trying to do, and I want you to know that your teachers are very busy trying to get good at more things. They are taking trainings, learning new technologies, and trying lots of exciting strategies to ensure that every child continues to learn at home.

We’re thinking a lot about next year and how school will look. We don’t really know yet, but it seems certain that it won’t look like last fall. At least some of the time and possibly all the time, we’ll still be working and learning from home and won’t be coming to school. Because of that, we're persisting in our work trying to ensure that every family has a device and internet. If you need help, please connect with your teacher. We are working on it!

I want to let you know that we’re gearing up for summer school. Your students are ALL welcome to join, and we’ll have some extra supports for students we know are academically behind. Summer school will be online, so we’ll be counting on getting every family hooked up to the internet and knowing how to use Schoology. That seems like it’s what we’ll be using next year as well, so it’s worth having your children learn how to use it independently when possible. Your teachers will be connecting with you with more information about signing up for summer school.

Boys and Girls Club will be offering child care this summer at their Rotary Club site. We are partnering with them to support students doing summer school activities. They have a number of scholarships and other financial aid programs for families who can’t pay tuition. I encourage families to depend on this resource for safe, fun care for your children.

We will be returning students' belongings to them on June 10th and 11th. Your family will have a specific 1 hour window. If you can’t make that particular time, please contact your teacher to arrange a different time. We will only be able to return items for those two days, so please do make it during your time if at all possible. We’ve set the 1 hour windows up to ensure that we don’t have any more than 20 families at a given time. We will be socially distancing, and please wear a mask if you have one. You will be able to pick up for all the children in your household at one time.

Sound Discipline is ramping up a LOT of family supports for free. Even the most amazing parents are getting a little rough around the edges by this time in the stay home order. Come join one of the events to connect with other families and recharge your parenting batteries.

    • Free, virtual Parent Support Network to share tools and answer questions around our weekly theme. Parents need to RSVP and then we will email them a Zoom link. Please encourage your families to join us for our next session on Thursday, May 28, 7:00 - 8:30 p.m. We will discuss Understanding and Naming Feelings with space for connection, tools and support.
    • Private Parent Facebook Group - all parents are welcome to join! We will post resources and answer questions.
    • Our family meeting videos - we have added Spanish subtitles! Here is the entire YouTube playlist. To turn on the Spanish subtitles:
      • Open a video
      • Click the gear settings symbol in the lower right corner (when you hover your mouse over the gear, it says Settings)
      • Click Subtitles/CC
      • Click Spanish

As always, I appreciate chatting with your children in their Teams meetings and seeing their work. It is the highlight of my day, and their teachers feel the same. I wish you the very best health and hope that your families’ needs are being met. Please let your teacher know if you need anything. We're in this together.

    Best Wishes,

    Sarah Talbot
