It’s already December, and the Seattle Public Library’s Global Reading Challenge (GRC) launched at Lowell last month! Our special guest SPL librarian, Louisa Storer, introduced the books to students in grades 4/5. We are lucky to have a returning volunteer coach this year, Jessica Carr, and she would like to show a potential coach next year “the ropes”. Please email Jessica at jgoldcarr@gmail.com if you would like to be a GRC coach next year. This would entail once a week lunch sessions with GRC students, helping them study and anticipate possible GRC questions. This January, students in grades 4/5 will be attending a special GRC author event at the downtown Seattle Public Library. Stay tuned for field trip forms! You don’t want your child to miss this fun excursion.

Last Friday the 13th, six Lowell Dragon classes participated in the Hour of Code during library time! Five Amazon employee volunteers led the groups and the students were very excited and hooked into coding!!! You can continue coding with them at home by going to Code.org. This year’s special coding activity was a modification of last year’s Dance Party, with new avatars, dance moves and songs. It was a lot of fun!!!

Please be on the lookout at home for any wayward Lowell library books! If students lose their books for more than 90 days, the overdue amount of the book turns in to a fine on their record. The goal is for students to return their books every week so they do not accumulate fines. Thank you and thanks for encouraging your child to read at home! I hope they read over the upcoming Winter Break!
