    Dear Lowell Families,

I hope you are all doing well as we continue to navigate through this new and interesting time. Remember, you can always reach out to your child’s classroom teacher or other trusted adults from our school if you have questions or are in need of any additional supports.

This is Teacher Appreciation Week and I am sure that you, as I do, appreciate the thoughtful work our staff has put in to creating online learning resources for our students, mailed needed items or materials to some, and reached out to stay connected with families. It is you, the family, that has had to become a teacher as well. Your partnership in educating Lowell students is invaluable and we want to make sure you know how much we appreciate you and your incredible efforts in supporting learning at home.

As our staff work to best support learning, one of those supports is knowing what students have learned and what they are still trying to learn. To understand this, we need to assess student learning. Soon your student’s teacher will be reaching out to you about finding out what we can. These assessments will require your help. Your partnership in student learning has been crucial and so will your partnership in assessing what the next steps are in student learning. This may simply be you supporting your child at home with some objects to count or group, or using your phone or other device to stream how your student is interacting with their reading materials. Your child’s teacher will give you more details.

We really appreciate the continued support you give Lowell and we look forward to the day when we can come back together at our school to engage with our students and thank you in person.

    Stay safe and stay well,

    Andrew Zillig
    Assistant Principal, Lowell Elementary School
