First Day Procedures and Info
Posted on 09/03/2016
Dragons, welcome to the 2016-2017 school year.
Here's the latest.
Students riding a Special Education school bus will be dropped off in front of the building, on 11th Avenue. We will be following the same procedures as last year, with staff greeting students at the bus.
Students riding other buses will be dropped off on Federal. Students will enter the building through the "fish" door and will walk up to the second floor and out to the courtyard and field. This new procedure is in response to the fencing-off of the "S path." Staff will greet students on Federal and guide their transition to the courtyard/field.
The "warning bell" will ring at 9:30. Students are to proceed to their line-up spot. These spots will be identified with signs and staff will be there to assist. Students will be escorted into the building starting at 9:35.
Kindergarten students will line-up outside of their classrooms in the courtyard area.
First grade students will line-up in the courtyard by the train sculpture.
Second grade students will line-up near the courtyard, by the gym wall.
Third grade students will line-up by the north door on 11th.
Fourth and fifth grade students will line up inside the courtyard, at the north end.
Recess and Lunch
Students will play first, and then eat lunch. The goal is for students to be able to focus on eating, rather than being excited about the opportunity to go outside to play.
Kindergarten and first graders will have recess and lunch together -- 15 minutes for recess and 25 minutes to eat.
Second and third graders will have recess and lunch together -- 15 minutes for recess and 20 minutes to eat.
Fourth and fifth graders will have recess and lunch together -- 15 minutes for recess and 20 minutes to eat.
Staff will no longer heat up students' lunch, so please plan accordingly.
Students will participate in lunch recess and an afternoon recess, both 15 minutes in length.
Recess will be outside unless it is storming. A little rain won't stop our Dragons from getting fresh air and exercise - we are Northwest strong! Please send your student with outwear that will handle the elements.
